HuffPost Thanksgiving: genocide day vs. Pilgrim refugees

■ The pieces
- HuffPost (contributor blog): "Happy National Genocide (Thanksgiving) Day!" — Nicole Breedlove (c. 2013-11-28)https://www.huffpost.com/entry/thanksgiving-pequot-massacre_b_4337722
- HuffPost: "This Thanksgiving, Remember America's Pilgrims Were Refugees, Too" — Igor Bobic (2015-11-23)https://www.huffpost.com/entry/thanksgiving-pilgrims-refugees_56534090e4b0d4093a586a33
■ What they show
A 2013 HuffPost contributor blog by Nicole Breedlove argued that Thanksgiving's roots lie in the 1637 Pequot Massacre and called it a national genocide day. In 2015, during the Syrian refugee debate, a HuffPost politics piece by Igor Bobic presented the Pilgrims sympathetically as refugees in order to argue for admitting Syrian refugees.
■ The other side
The 2013 item was an unedited contributor blog, while the 2015 item was a staff politics piece. They are two years apart and use the Pilgrims to make different points, not one editorial position. The 2013 date is approximate (from same-day reposts).
Who it helped: DemocratsA left-wing framing of an American holiday.
