■ What they show
Philadelphia Inquirer fashion columnist Elizabeth Wellington read Melania Trump's white dress at the Republican convention as a worrying statement. Nine days later the same columnist wrote that Hillary Clinton's all-white pantsuit at the Democratic convention made her look presidential.
■ The other side
Both are signed personal-style columns, and Wellington framed her readings around each campaign's overall message, not the outfit alone.
Who it helped: DemocratsRead the same white outfit as sinister on Melania and presidential on Clinton.
