CNN: social networks 'radicalizing white men'

17 MAR 2019 · CNN

■ The pieces

■ What they show

Two days after the Christchurch mosque attacks, CNN Business published an analysis arguing that YouTube and other platforms were radicalizing white men and that big tech could be doing more. Critics objected to the piece framing a demographic group as the subject of radicalization.

■ The other side

The piece focused on recommendation algorithms and extremist content after an attack whose perpetrator had been active in online far-right spaces, and it quoted terrorism researchers.

Who it helped: DemocratsFramed white men, a right-leaning group, as the radicalization problem.
